en The Angling association of Skaftártunga operates Hólaskjól-Highland Center. It also operates the angling mountain lakes in Skaftártunga i.e. between Tunguá and Skaftá. Vatnajökull National Park has a base here, but Hólaskjól is 4-5 km from the edge of the park. The travel and accommodation services in Hólaskjól are available from early in june to september every summer and great for backpacking and hiking. Go Cross country skiing in the wintertime in the highlands when there is plenty of snow, diverse routes. It is ideal to use Hólaskjól as a base when traveling the highlands and vatnajökull by Snowmobile. Hólaskjól is located in Lamskarðshólar next to an old lavafield that from when Eldgjá erupted, It is a peaceful and beautful place with just a 5 minute walk up the lavafield to an unnamed waterfall in Syðri-Ófæra, that many call Silfurfoss or Litli-Gullfoss, we call it Huldufoss. The lavafield provides a good cover for Hólaskjól. Also many hiking trails in the area.
